About this space
Spacious and artsy basement apartment in a Brooklyn brownstone on a historic block. Large main room with living room and area for dining, large bedroom, modern bathroom with huge shower and a modern kitchen. No backyard access. Heat and A/C. Close to subway and Prospect Park.
The space
This unique, clean, fly, and fun basement apartment in a Brooklyn brownstone home is perfect for a couple, a few friends or a small family. You get one-of-a-kind space and a convenient location one short block from the subway.

Living Room • Work Area • Dining Nook
After entering the private entrance under the front stoop of the main house, the spacious main room offers the backdrop of a hand-painted wall to wall mural honoring Tokyo and recreating the work of an amazing Japanese graffiti artist. Opposite the Tokyo mural, who else but Mr. T is there in another hand-painted mural to welcome you and offer his intimidating scowl for the duration of your stay. There is also comfortable seating, a Roku TV ready for you to login to your Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, etc. accounts, a (knock-off) old-school Nintendo with 600 preinstalled classic games, a laptop-ready work desk for focusing and getting some work done, and a dining table and chairs for four people to enjoy some of the delicious delivery in the neighborhood or play a game of cards.

Bathroom
Just off the main room is a bathroom with a shower large enough that it should maybe be called a shower with a bathroom. There is body wash, shampoo, conditioner, towels, washcloths, and a hair dryer provided.

Bedroom
Escape to the cherry blossom themed bedroom for some of the best sleep you've ever had. If you've ever slept in a window-less room, you understand how deep and uninterrupted you can sleep without the glow of streetlights, flash of car lights and glare of the sun. There are two light switches in the room: one for overhead bright lighting and another for warmer accent lighting via lamps on the nightstands when it's time to relax. The room features a full-size bed and also has a couch, a Roku Smart TV, an iron, and an ironing board.

Kitchen • Laundry
Completing the apartment, down the hall from the bedroom, you enter a modern kitchen that continues the Japanese theme drawing its design inspiration from Japan’s beautiful bamboo forests. It is a full kitchen with a refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, toaster oven and coffee maker. It even includes a washer and dryer for your laundry.

Where you’ll be
MY NEIGHBORHOOD
Brooklyn's largest park, Prospect Park, as well as the Brooklyn Botanic Garden are both only 3 blocks away (15-min walk). The block is a friendly mixture of ages and cultures. There are multiple Caribbean, Chinese, Pizza, Sushi, Soul Food, Mexican, and Indian restaurants throughout the neighborhood—within walking distance or available for delivery. There are also dry cleaners, grocery stores, coffee shops and several deli's within a couple blocks. The closest hospital is just 1 mile away. The Barclay's Center, which is home to the NBA's Brooklyn Nets and the WNBA’s New York Liberty as well as many concerts and events throughout the year, is just six local subway stops away (or three express stops). Other popular Brooklyn spots, Brighton Beach and Coney Island, are a 30-min Uber ride south (about 40 min via subway).
Getting around
NYC has great public transit so a car isn't needed to enjoy your stay. From my house it's a two-minute walk to the 2 and 5 subway lines at the Sterling St station (24-min ride into Manhattan). Or a twelve-minute walk to the B and Q subway lines at the Prospect Park station (17-min ride into Manhattan).
GETTING TO MANHATTAN (via the subway)
From my house it will take about 25–30 min to get to the Financial District / Wall St / World Trade Center Memorial / Battery Park (ferry to Statue of Liberty).
From there, it's another 10 min to Midtown / Fashion District / Penn Station / Madison Square Garden / Empire State Building.
Then it's one more stop to Times Square / Theatre District / Broadway / Radio City Music Hall.
Lastly, it's 2–3 more stops from there to get to Central Park.
If you do bring or rent a car, there is free street (parallel) parking on my block. No reserved or assigned spaces. As with most big cities with street parking, there are Alternate Side Parking rules to allow for the street sweepers to clean the streets. Every block has street signs indicating the times for alternate side parking for that block. On my block, cars either need to be moved or already be parked on the other side of the street on Mondays and Thursdays between 9:30am–11:00am and then the same goes for the opposite side of the street on Tuesdays and Fridays between 9:30am–11:00am. Lastly, it is against city parking rules to park beside fire hydrants.
Guest access
Full and exclusive access to the entire basement apartment. Private front entrance under the front stoop. There is a door leading up to the backyard but backyard use is reserved exclusively for the tenants who rent the upstairs apartment.
Other things to note
There are guests/tenants upstairs in the apartment above the basement apartment so you may hear them walking around or occasional talking while they are on the first floor. They also have a dog who I am told is a very mild dog who hardly ever barks but you may occasionally hear the dog walking around on the first floor above the basement.
The house uses a boiler and radiators as the main way to heat the home during the colder months. While the heat is on, you may hear the natural knocking in the pipes that occurs as hot water travels through the cold pipes.
Must climb stairs. There are six (6) steps down to the front door under the front stoop.
Additional rules
I'm happy to have guests using my home as they enjoy their stay in NYC! I've done a lot of the work in the basement myself including the painted murals and just ask that guests treat the place with love. It's my and my kids' home, not a party hotel. :) If anything needs attention, please let me know immediately.
For fire safety: No lighting candles inside and no open flame grilling outside.
No smoking/vaping inside or outside in the front or backyard.
No pets.
No parties or events.
Do not throw anything in the toilet besides regular toilet paper.
